Homework 1-3: Artist Research

Christian Boltanski is a French installation artist who is well known for manipulating light and photos to create an eerie tone that calls upon historical tragedies. Although his work does not represent the most cutting edge use of technology, it is in fact a "new media." He often uses photos from old newspaper obituaries, but then uses technology to enhance and zoom in on the image of a face. He then uses spotlights and their wires to create an uncomfortable feeling.

Homework 1-2: Introduction

My name is Casey Gallagher. I have lived in various parts of New York my entire life, and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Anthropology from Stony Brook University. After deciding to return to a career in the arts, I completed my undergraduate art requirements and am now pursuing a Master’s in Art & Art Education (with Initial Certification).

As a traditional painter, my experience with new media is very limited. I have worked mainly with oils and watercolors, and have had only basic introductions to digital photography, photoshop, and audio mixing. I am looking forward to learning about the many digital art materials offered in this course.
